GCISD schools, through support from PTA, are offered a spectacular creative problem solving program for its students from Kindergarten through grade 12. This worldwide program is called Destination Imagination.
Students gather a team of up to seven and create a unique solution to one of seven different themed challenges: Scientific, Technical, Structural, Community Service, Improvisational, Fine Arts and Early Learners (K-2nd). Through adult instruction (usually a PTA volunteer parent), teams learn valuable research, collaboration and teamwork skills in conceiving seemingly impossible solutions and making them come to life. This all happens outside of school hours and other activities.
Seasons start in August and conclude in the Spring with a Regional Tournament where teams from the Mid-Cities area present their solution to a panel of appraisers that score their presentation on creativity, originality, technical elements and teamwork. Teams also get to solve a mystery timed challenge to put their quick-thinking skills to the test. Highest scoring teams move on to the State level, then possibly to Global Finals to show off with the best around the world.
